The next morning, John woke from his sleep and poured himself a cup of coffee. With hesitation, he pulled out his cell phone as he sat at the table waiting for the inevitable messages that would pour in from the telephone company to begin the work at fixing the damage that was caused by last night’s fiasco. John opened his messages and started to scroll through his phone, when suddenly his phone began to ring. It was the insurance company calling to set up the claim.
John picked up the phone and greeted the caller. There was a detailed discussion about where the claim happened, what time of day, the equipment involved and the resulting damage that was caused. John continued to feel a little silly about the whole thing because it could have been avoided by taking an extra 5 minutes to clean the windows. That silly feeling went away when the claims adjuster joked “yup, we fix stupid to!” John laughed, because the adjuster was right- the whole situation was stupid, and he was just relieved to be getting the help that he needed.
The one aspect of this whole mishap that still had John concerned was the damage to the telephone pole and the ramifications for having downed the telephone service for an evening while the crews repaired the damage. What was that bill going to be? Thankfully, the adjuster also tackled that concern head on. He began to talk to John about his liability coverage and how it protects him from damages caused by his actions by being negligent. He reassured John that the damages that he was liable for would also be covered by his farm insurance policy.
John wrapped up the 45 minute call with the adjuster with a real sense of calmness and relief. Suddenly, all the premiums he had paid over the years and the coverage reviews he had done had paid off and protected him, his assets, and his financial well being.
